The San Beda Red Lions went ablaze onto the Big Dome as they feasted on the hosts the Mapua Cardinals, 85-56 at the opening day of the 84th season of the NCAA.
Sam Ekwe opens his bid to reclaim the league’s Most Valuable Player distinction, posting monster numbers 18 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals to be the first best player of the game this season. It was a well oiled demolition job by the Lions, leading all the way from opening tip-off. They slowly inched their way to a formidable lead, late in the second quarter and never looked back. Ekwe got able support from starters Jay-R Taganas, Ogie Menor and Pong Escobal. Borgie Hermida came to play with his nifty hands to snatch the ball on several occasions, translating into exciting fastbreaks. The deep bench spelled mean business by mounting an avalanche of points from steady sixth man Bam Gamalinda, sophomore hotshot Garvo Lanete, rainbow boy JR Tecson and the controversial Jake Pascual.
With this emphatic win, San Beda sent out a red letter message across the NCAA. To anyone who stands in the way of the rampaging Red Lions, come prepared… Coz they will run over YOU!
Go San Beda Fight!
