The Red Lions faced a dark past and emerged victorious Wednesday afternoon when they went head to head with heated rival PCU. I’m sure everybody recalled how the Dolphins threatened to extend the 28 year drought of San Beda another painful year longer, save for the last second miss of Beau Belga in 2006. The Dolphins enter this season without their big guns Gabby Espinas, who has gone off to the PBA, and Jason Castro, who joined the SIngapore Slingers early this month. They are now reinforced with holdovers Leimar Navarro, Lisztian Amparado (ohhh what a spelling nightmare for a first name)why do they give kids today these horribly misspelled first names??!) and Red Army’s best friend Beau Belga ( in fact, a video has been created in his honor)
The Dolphins gave the Red Lions quite a scare, dictating the tempo of the game for 37 minutes. The Red Lions, obviously suffering from the long 10 day layoff, struggled with every shot. Team play was out of sync. But of course, with the deep deep bench of San Beda, I was almost sure that someone would step up when the going went rough. There they were, wily guard Borgie Hermida and reliable sixth man BamBam Gamalinda.
The Red Lions stepped on the gas in the final three minutes of the match, anchored by a three point connection by Chico Tirona. Then both Gamalinda and Hermida saved the day by launching an 11-0 run to ruin PCU’s chances of posting their 1st win in the season.
On to the next conquest, JRU.. On Monday, 14 July 😀
Go San Beda Fight!
