Day 1 of my stay in Manhattan:
My aunt dearie brought me to the diner right off the block. My first date with the 24 hour City Diner on Broadway and West 90th. The first of many many visits…
I ordered a steaming cup of brewed coffee. Refillable till you drop. All for $1. I’m loving it already.
What to order for my first breakfast on the UWS? Hands down choice
The Great Bagel Deluxe ($11.95): Nova Scotia Lox, cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, bermuda onion, olives and garni.
The City Diner was my default go-to-place when I was at home and hungry. On Thursday, we came for the soup. The turkey and barley soup was really one for the soul. It will save you from the cold, a starving tummy, a hole in your wallet or a really bad day. A cure-all for $4 a bowl.
I come here for desserts too. The Lemon Meringue pie was the best I ever ever tasted. Once I’m faced with it, taking a photo of it was farthest from my mind. Hence, the reason I have no picture to show.
On days the pie was out of stock, this was a worthy alternate.
Lemon Coconut Cake ($4.50) I never liked coconut on my desserts. It just reminds me of how I hated Almond Joy. But with this one, I was forced to change my mind.
I can go on and on about how amazing and comforting it is to have a place like this around the block. Im just super friendly with this diner. It has become one of my best friends in Manhattan. I miss you friend!!
